Carers UK www.carersuk.org

CarersUK is a really helpful website. In particular, there is an informative area on the site called “Useful to Know” which has the following sections that might be of interest:

Quick Guide to Caring” includes some excellent suggestions on looking after a partner, and there are “20 tips for low mood”, giving sound advice. There is also advice on Finance, including information on whether you are entitled to the Carers’ Allowance.

Under “Finding help where you live” there is a directory of local organisations in each area that may be valuable if you are feeling isolated or just wanting a friendly chat.

Finally, another really beneficial section is “Looking after yourself” containing practical advice on health, work and career – particularly important if you are still working yet trying to cope with caring for someone with TN.

There is also an Advice Line available on 0808 808 7777.

Pain Concern Carer Community Forum

Pain Concern, an Edinburgh-based charity, assists people living with chronic pain, and provides support for them and their families, friends and carers. They have recently set up the Pain Concern Carer Community Forum for young carers aged 16-25 across the UK, caring for someone with chronic pain. The Carer Community aims to provide an online space where young people can keep in touch with each other, share their experiences and also ask questions which will be taken to our expert panel and answered later on our website.

Here is a link to the forum and for more information: http://painconcern.org.uk/how-we-help/pain-concern-carer-community/.

The Carer Community also shares close links with our Pain Matters magazine and the Airing Pain radio show.  In June and July this year, ‘Airing Pain’ released two 30 minute podcasts focusing on young carers for people in pain. Please follow this link if you would like to take a listen! http://painconcern.org.uk/how-we-help/airing-pain/.
