He specialises in brain tumour surgery and the treatment of facial pain syndromes, including Trigeminal Neuralgia. His expertise also includes awake brain surgery for gliomas and procedures for degenerative spinal conditions.

Many of you have already sent in your questions, and if you haven’t you can still do so until 25th February. I know how much you are looking forward to Mr Eralil’s presentation—it promises to be an engaging and informative session, offering real insight into treatment options.

I look forward to seeing you there.

The Importance of Regional Support Groups

Living with Trigeminal Neuralgia can be isolating, but no one should have to go through it alone. TNA UK’s Regional Support Groups (RSGs) provide a space where members can come together for mutual support, shared experiences, and valuable information.

These groups are led by dedicated volunteers, many of whom live with TN themselves and understand the challenges. They are designed to build connections between members, carers, and loved ones across the UK. RSGs also help to combat isolation and address mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, and agoraphobia, which many of our members experience.

“Meeting someone else with TN has made me feel less alone it’s been great meeting in person, but it’s also good online too.

Why Attend an RSG?

  • Connection – Meet others who truly understand TN and facial pain.
  • Shared Knowledge – Exchange practical advice and coping strategies.
  • Emotional Wellbeing – Reduce feelings of isolation by becoming part of a strong, supportive community.
  • Up-to-Date Information – Stay informed about new treatments, medical advancements, and self-management techniques

Carers, loved ones, and supporters are welcome to attend, as their role in your journey is just as important. Attending together can help them understand TN better and feel supported themselves.

We are pleased to introduce two new RSG leads, who will be helping us expand and strengthen our support network:

New Support Groups

Tony Phillips-Jones – Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

“Hi, I’m Tony from mid-Cornwall. At 56, I enjoy music and beach walks. After my Trigeminal Neuralgia diagnosis in October 2023 and subsequent Microvascular Decompression surgery in December 2024, I want to help others share their TN journeys and support each other, whether through online or in-person meetings.”

Wendy Bassett – Devon
“I’m Wendy, and I’m passionate about assisting those with TN. Being part of an RSG provides an opportunity to share experiences, access support, and ensure no one feels alone

We are also looking for a volunteer to lead a RSG in the Birmingham area. If you are based in Birmingham and would like to help support others with TN, please get in touch. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference, create a strong support network, and help reduce isolation for those living with TN.

If you’re interested in joining a RSG, here is the Diary of Events https://www.tna.org.uk/diary-of-events/ or if you would like to start one in your area, or volunteer in other ways, please contact [email protected].

Supporting TNA UK – Kirsten Cooper’s Fundraiser

TNA UK Trustee and RSG Lead, Kirsten Cooper, has launched a fundraiser to support TNA UK’s work in research and support for those living with facial pain.

Reflecting on her journey, Kirsten shares:

“Approaching my 10-year anniversary with atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, I wish I had joined TNA earlier. I don’t want anyone to suffer alone as I did in those first few days, weeks, and months.”

She has set a goal of raising £1,000 before summer, with every donation directly supporting people across the UK living with TN.
